So, as we continue this series on Psalm 91, I want to talk to you today about verse two:

2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

I’m notice here, who is doing the saying? The Psalmist. You see, once you get the truth of verse 1 deep into your heart… until it, and not your troubles, saturate your mind:

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

To the point where you can stand fast and unmovable in this truth…. THEN you can say:

“I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”

There is a boldness that comes once you KNOW with a doubt that He love you with an everlasting love!

No let’s break down some of these words from the Hebrew:

RefugeMachaceth (math-as-eh) from chacah (khaw-saw’) “to flee for protection, to confide in; a shelter.”
o When trouble comes THIS is WHO you run to… Not the world nor its ways… NO: HIM. Why? Because you KNOW you can trust Him and He WILL come through for you!
o You can also confide in Him… Trust Him with your deepest secrets, pains, and disappointments. Why? Because He will Never Leave YOU nor FORSAKE You! [Hebrews 13:5]
o He is also a shelter from the storms. Shelters only work for you when you USE them… When you run to them when a storm approaches… Shelf your pride and your reliance on your own strength and wit… RUN TO HIM!!!

Fortressmatsuwd ( maw-tsood’) – a net, fastness [a secure refuge, especially a place well protected].
o Think of an impenetrable fortress bristling with weapons and defenses to keep the enemy out and you safe.
o Also, think of the analogy of a trapeze artist who swings boldly across the air knowing there’s a net beneath him to catch him if he lost his grip or mistimed the bars.

One of the enemy’s tactics is to make you feel like you’re alone… no cares (especially God)… and no one’s coming to your rescue…. So YOU better DO something or… ELSE!

Nothing could be further from the truth!

2 Kings 6:16-17 King James Version (KJV)

16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.

17 And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

I pray that God may “open your eyes” so that you may see His Mighty Hand and His Mighty Army WITH YOU… Surrounding you… Protecting you FIGHTING FOR YOU!!!

As we close for this segment, I want to share a verse that has meant a great deal to Sharon and I over the past 30 years:

Isaiah 41:10 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)

10 Fear not [there is nothing to fear], for I am with you; do not look around you in terror and be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties, yes, I will help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you with My [victorious] right hand of rightness and justice.

11 Behold, all they who are enraged and inflamed against you shall be put to shame and confounded; they who strive against you shall be as nothing and shall perish.

Whoever your enemy is today: corona virus, bill collectors, famine or sword… Know This:

He IS FOR you and WITH you… So your enemies CANNOT stand against you for HE dwells IN YOU…

He’s your Daddy… and He LOVES YOU…
